One Last Leaf by NyssaCreative One Last Leaf by NyssaCreative
I got myself a tablet recently, been playing with it a bit and getting a bit better with it (was so horrible at first). I decided to start drawing last night and this is what came out of it.

Finished it off today and made myself a wallpaper with it. Unfortunately I didn't do it at a huge size so I can't provide larger wallpapers. Silly me, but I didn't expect to do anything with it.

Anyway, people that have been watching me for a couple of years will know that this is the first drawing I have submitted in a very, very long time. I'm a bit out of practice too. :(

Not a style everyone will like, but hope you guys will like it anyway. :aww:

Feel free to save it for personal use and adjust it to your own preferences for use on your home/work computers.

This sketch type of art is my favorite, I wish more people used this style more often. I love the colors and the "stroke" feel to it.

Good to hear someone likes this style :) Suppose I should do it more often. Thanks for the comment! :D

I really like it! This will surely be added to my wallpaper switcher rotation! I just wish it was 1680x1050 res!

Love it. I'm typically not drawn (pardon the pun) to this style, but this has some sort of infectious quality. Style-wise it reminds me of a newspaper cartoonist. Leunig comes to mind but I could be wrong. In any case, it's The Business...
you have a very special gift

It's great! Really, it is! Very well done for being off the drawing for so long. Reminds me of some really atmospheric flashgraphics... Very good Nyssa!

Although I feel that the red balloon is somehow distracting from the little green leaf that would do more impact if it was the only colored thing in there. Especially red is very strong no matter the nuance...

well, actually the style isn't too bad in my opinion, though I would have liked it much better when the head would have had a shape instead of some lines :)

Thats wonderful! I wish I could do something half as good with my old tablet :aww:

This is really awesome, Nyssa, and if it's any preview to what else you may be producing with your tablet I can't wait to see what else you produce!

I stumbled upon this accidentally by searching for widescreen walls, and I have to say I love this! I have a Wacom tablet that I've had almost a year now, and I love it. I'm still not that great at hand-drawn art, but practice makes perfect! And it makes my other digital artwork much easier to do.

I love this and I think I'll use it. I didn't look at the title until I interpreted what it meant, and I saw it as a hope for new life. I saw the leaf as new lol. I guess my version doesn't make much sense. xD Either way, it's really good.

If you'd like to see the work of others who use tablets, check out my friend Stephy's DA.. lostluckkitten. She does amazing work as well. :)

Simple fix for limited size on a work such as this:
Open it in Illustrator, use Live Trace on it with very high counts of strokes, curves, and such. Basically, make Illustrator copy it "as is" into a vector version in full color. Then Scale the vectors and save in any size. This doesn't give you more detail (could possibly loose some) but it does keep the lines from pixelating and blurring when trying to resize.

oh yeah, I really like this
You're quite good at drawing.
I want one so badly. I just don't want to get the small one because it seems too small (I'm a big guy) and the ones that seem comfortably sized are way too expensive. Oh well. :(
Sephirah Featured By Owner Dec 3, 2007
Ohh, don't take the size into consideration, really.
I thought I wanted a bigger one too, but I got an A5 Wacom BAMBOO..and it's perfect.
As long as you work on a large canvas, you can zoom in, but the tablet is still equal to the screen [blah, can't explain].
AndrewMiguelez Featured By Owner Dec 3, 2007   Interface Designer
No, I know all about them. My school has them for us to use and whenever I can, I take a crack at them. They have a bunch of 4x5's and a few larger ones. I like the larger ones because I don't draw (at all, really) with my fingers as much as I use my whole hand to make the motions with the pen. So the larger the capture area, the better.

I know what you were saying about the tablet capture area being equal to the screen area. I forget what that's called, but it's something like "screen ratio mode." If you dive into the preferences, you can change how your tablet works. You can set it up to move no different than a mouse. I like that setup because it gives greater accuracy at any zoom level. You have to move around a lot more, like with a mouse, to cover the whole screen but I tend to find that easier to draw with.
